What We Did To This Old VW

With the car powered by a nice little 1200cc (great for driving slowly) we needed al lot more pep to run some good numbers on the track.

The first engine was a very mild 1641cc engine with an engle 120 cam, 1.25 ratio rockers and virtually everything else stock it took the car into the low 18sec bracket and we never got it running right! After a year of that (two race meets) we decided to go bigger. So we brought the parts for a highly tuned 1776cc engine, which took the car into the low 16 sec bracket, though there was more in that engine! And then i managed to get hold of a DLI supercharger kit, complete with turbo thomas exhaust system, 650 cfm holley and a modified manifold/stand for the charger. And as such another engine is being built!, using the same alloy bugpack case from the 1776, but now it is somewhat bigger, 2110cc!, which now features Demello race crank and wedge~mated flywheel (82mm), scat 5.5" H-Beam rods, 90.5mm mahle barrells and pistons, Webcam 86B camshaft, straight cut cam gears, manton pushrods, with jaycee pushrod tubes and cb performance 044 cnc machined heads, with 42mm inlet and 37.5mm outlet s/s valves.

Ignition is being taken care of via a complete Crane Cams system, which runs using a modified bosch 009 dizzy, as that is all i can fit using the dli supercharger. But the set up includes hi6 dsr control box, with ignition retard module and a LX91 E-Coil.

And new product is a methanol/water injection kit from the states of which i can supply directly from the states, (and it's a better and cheaper alternative then running a er/aquamistl kit!) e-mail me for more detail!

Well after a long wait due to us waiting for the crank i now have the engine and it's fitted in the car

And there is also a new big wig race car's rear sopiler fitted to the car, note: the white you see is in fact a protective layer on the ali and it isn't the end result of the spoiler!

So the interior!first off a roll cage was fitted which was  purchased from John Rathbone racing (was 6-point but is now 10 point roll cage made of 4130 chrom-moly tubing) and as my dad is a welder by trade we installed it our selfs. As you can see there is now a complete set of anutometer gauges, constisting of a speedo, monster 5" tacho and shift light, oil temp and pressure, fuel gauge, boost gauge and cylinder head tempreature all from the sport comp range! and these were all brought from jegs in the states, a SCAT drag fast gear lever takes care of shifting through the gears and a hand held fire extinguisher is there for saftey reasons, the seats are (when installed omp eco) and sabelt 4-point harness hold me in!

The photo below shows what the new dash arrangement look like, note the set of switches which take care of fuel, water, ignition, oil fan and screen wash!
